Paradise Bend is a primitive boat-in campsite at approximately river mile 39.5 on the Smith River, part of the Smith River State Park system managed by Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks. The site sits beneath cottonwood trees with views of a broad meadow and canyon cliffs. A fire ring is provided, but there is no water source and no toilet facility — all human waste must be packed out. A cave above the campsite is a popular side hike for floaters. Access requires a valid Smith River float permit, distributed annually through a competitive lottery. The regulated permit season runs April 1 through August 15; river levels are typically optimal for floating from mid-April through early July.
