Merganser Bend is a designated boat-in campsite located at approximately mile 44.5 along the Smith River float corridor, managed by Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks. Access requires a float permit obtained through the annual FWP lottery system. The site is situated among willows that provide natural privacy and screening. No water or toilet facilities are available at this site — all floaters must pack in drinking water and pack out human waste using approved hard-sided portable toilet systems, as required by FWP regulations. Camping is permitted only at designated boat camps during the peak season (May 15–July 15), with a maximum four-night stay. This site is accessible only by non-motorized watercraft as part of the 59-mile permitted corridor between Camp Baker and Eden Bridge.
