Sunset Cliff is a boat-in campsite along the permitted Smith River float corridor in Meagher County, Montana, managed by Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks. Accessible only by watercraft, the site sits near mile 23 of the 59-mile route between Camp Baker and Eden Bridge, where a dramatic orange sandstone cliff face dominates the opposite bank and catches warm light toward evening. No permanent toilet facilities exist at this site — all floaters on the Smith River are required to carry portable waste containment systems and pack out all human waste. Water is not available on-site. A lottery-issued float permit from Montana FWP is required; the permitted season runs approximately April through mid-August, with peak floater demand from mid-April through mid-July.

Sunset Cliff is very aptly named... sit back and watch the alpen glow dance on the cliff walls. The closure and removal of the pit toilets at each campsite means floaters must bring and carry a portable toilet system.
