Scotty Allen is a designated boat-in campsite along the Smith River, part of the 59-mile permitted float corridor managed by Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks. Located approximately 12 miles from the Camp Baker put-in, it is a popular first-day destination for multi-day float trips through Smith River State Park. The site offers a primitive setting with no developed water source or sanitation facilities — floaters must carry approved hard-sided portable toilets and pack out all waste per FWP regulations. Access requires a valid float permit obtained through the annual FWP lottery, with peak season running May 15 through July 15. The typical float season spans mid-April through mid-July.
