Canyon Depth is a permitted boat-in campsite located at approximately mile 17 of the Smith River float corridor in Meagher County, Montana, managed by Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks as part of Smith River State Park. Positioned at the entrance to the canyon section of the river, it marks the beginning of the most dramatic and remote stretch of the 59-mile float between Camp Baker and Eden Bridge. Access is exclusively by watercraft during the permitted float season, which typically runs mid-April through mid-July depending on water conditions. Floaters must obtain a permit through the annual FWP lottery to use this and other designated boat camps along the river. No drinking water is available on-site; visitors must carry all water and pack out all waste.
