Fifty Mountain is a hike-in backcountry wilderness campsite in Glacier National Park's high country, positioned near the junction of the Highline Trail and Waterton Valley Trail at roughly 6,900 feet elevation. The site commands panoramic views of alpine meadows, surrounding peaks, and nearby glaciers, and lies within well-documented grizzly bear habitat — bear-aware food storage practices are mandatory. Access routes include Packers Roost (approximately 12 miles one-way) and Goat Haunt via Waterton Lakes National Park (approximately 10.5 miles one-way); a longer approach from Logan Pass follows the Highline Trail for about 19.5 miles, with most parties breaking at Granite Park en route. Five designated tent sites accommodate up to 4 campers each. A vault toilet is provided; no treated drinking water is available and campers must filter or treat water from backcountry sources. A wilderness use permit is required for camping May 1 through October 31. Free winter permits are available from November through April, though the remote alpine terrain makes off-season access extremely challenging.
