Lake Ellen Wilson is a remote backcountry campsite situated in a glacially carved cirque at approximately 6,100 feet elevation within Glacier National Park. Accessible only by trail, the site lies along the popular Gunsight Pass corridor connecting the park's east and west sides via the Continental Divide. A vault toilet is on-site; no drinking water is available, so campers must treat water from alpine sources. Overnight stays require a wilderness permit ($7 per person per night), available through the NPS advance reservation system on Recreation.gov or in-person at a backcountry ranger station on a first-come, first-served basis. Due to snowpack, sites typically become accessible around mid-July and remain open through October.
