A small primitive campground within the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge featuring 3 wooded sites along the Swanson River at Mile 16.9 on Swanson River Road near Sterling. The campground is located about 100 yards from Swanson River Landing, the midpoint of the Swanson River canoe trail. Sites are surrounded by spruce trees with river access and include vault toilets and a boat launch. No electrical hookups or potable water available. Popular activities include fishing for rainbow trout, Dolly Varden, and silver salmon, paddling the river, and wildlife viewing. The facility operates May through September depending on road conditions. Swanson River Road is unpaved gravel with washboard sections requiring cautious driving. Managed by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
