Amenities include vault toilet and fire rings. No potable water is available - visitors must bring their own or filter from the lake. The campground is surrounded by spruce forest with direct lake access for fishing and paddling. Access via gravel Swan Lake Road off Sterling Highway, approximately 2 hours south of Anchorage or 20 minutes from Sterling. Popular for fishing stocked Arctic char and enjoying the refuge solitude. No camping fees. Open May through September depending on road and weather conditions.
Free sites: Engineer Lake, Kelly Lake, Lower Ohmer Lake, Lower Skilak Lake, Petersen Lake, and Watson Lake. Hidden Lake and Upper Skilak Campgrounds: $15 per night. Campgrounds accessible from Swan Lake Road do not require fees to access.
