Located at Mile 39 of the Steese Highway, about one hour northeast of Fairbanks, this state recreation site offers 24 campsites and four picnic sites along the Upper Chatanika River. The clearwater stream is known for excellent fishing, with species including grayling, lamprey, burbot, humpback whitefish, northern pike, and sheefish. A road leads to a gravel bar where visitors can launch canoes and rafts for all-day float trips down the Chatanika River. The area provides access to boating, camping, hiking, and picnicking opportunities, with wildlife including black and brown bears, moose, wolves, river otters, and beavers commonly seen in the area.
