Horse Prairie Campground occupies the eastern shore of Clark Canyon Reservoir, roughly 20 miles south of Dillon. The US Bureau of Reclamation manages this free campground, which offers 20 sites accommodating both tents and RVs, many with covered picnic pavilions. Vault toilets and a hand-operated seasonal water pump are on-site. Campers have direct access to the reservoir for boating and fishing; rainbow and brown trout are the primary draw. Camping is first-come, first-served with a 14-night maximum stay limit. The reservoir is located near Camp Fortunate, the historic site along the Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail where the expedition met the Lemhi Shoshoni and cached canoes and supplies for their return journey.
