Taroka Arm West is a remote paddle-in camping area located on the western shore of Taroka Arm in Kenai Fjords National Park. Like its counterpart across the arm, the name Taroka is derived from a Native word for "brown bear," a reminder to campers of the wildlife they may encounter. This backcountry site is accessible only by kayak or other non-motorized watercraft and provides no developed facilities. Campers must practice Leave No Trace principles and follow park regulations for bear-resistant food storage. The location offers wilderness camping experiences with dramatic views of the fjord landscape and surrounding mountains. Weather and ocean conditions can change rapidly, requiring careful planning for safe beach landings.
