Birdwood is a designated backcountry campsite in Banff National Park accessible via the Great Divide Trail. Located before Burstall Pass in a rarely traveled section of the park, the campsite sits approximately five kilometers from Burstall campground. Access is via Mount Shark or Burstall Pass trailheads. Facilities include a privy, picnic table, fireplace at a designated cooking area about one hundred meters from tent pads, and bear-safe food storage lockers. Advance reservations and backcountry permits are required and can be obtained by calling Parks Canada at 403-762-1556 or 403-522-1264, or visiting visitor centers in Banff or Lake Louise. The remote location offers views of Mount Birdwood and surrounding peaks. Reservations open late January for the camping season.
