Confederate Campground occupies the eastern shore of Canyon Ferry Lake along Confederate Bay, managed by the US Bureau of Reclamation. This free dispersed camping area provides informal sites spread around the bay with no developed hookups or assigned spots. A vault toilet and one ADA-accessible site with a concrete pad are available, but there is no drinking water or trash service — pack out what you bring in. Campers should plan on 14-day maximum stays. The location offers direct lake access for fishing and boating, and the surrounding terrain includes beaches suitable for swimming. Named for Confederate Gulch, where former Confederate soldiers discovered gold in the Big Belt Mountains in 1864, the campground is a popular no-frills destination on Canyon Ferry Lake's quieter eastern shoreline.
