Smokehouse Hill is one of approximately 19 primitive camping areas scattered throughout Dale Bumpers White River National Wildlife Refuge. The site offers no developed facilities and operates March 1 through December 31, staying open later than most South Unit campgrounds. Camping requires a $20 annual public use permit (free for ages 15 and under) and is limited to 14 days per 30-day period. Camps must be occupied daily and remain within white-blazed boundaries. Quiet hours run 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. (no generators). Campers must pack out all trash and remove rock fire rings upon departure. Located near Burnt Lake via Smokehouse Hill/Escronges Lake Road, the area provides access to the refuge's bottomland hardwood forest for hunting, fishing, and wildlife observation.
