A primitive paddle-in camping area at Baird Canyon on the Copper River. This narrow canyon section of the river is known for grizzly bears that fish for salmon along its banks. The site is commonly used as a rest stop by rafters making the multi-day float from Chitina to Cordova. Located downstream of Allen Glacier and upstream of Abercrombie Rapids. No developed facilities are available - campers must be fully self-sufficient.
The river narrows again at Baird Canyon and then opens up wide and still as we approach Abercrombie Rapids. Here grizzly bears often line the banks to fish for the infamous Copper River Red Salmon
Once past the Allen Glacier you are on the fast track to the end of the trip and be wary of the next feature, Abercrombie Rapids, which follows just after Baird Canyon
Proper food storage is required. Bear Resistant Food Containers (BRFC) are available for borrowing from visitor centers
