A backcountry camping area located 1.7 miles up the Iditarod Trail from the Eagle River Nature Center in Chugach State Park. The site serves as both a group tent camping area and the location of the Rapids Camp Yurt. The camping area has a picnic table, fire ring, bear-proof food locker, and latrine. All groups and individuals must obtain a permit to use the Rapids Camping Area. The yurt sleeps up to 6 and includes a woodstove with firewood. Access is by hiking, skiing, or snowshoeing only - no motorized vehicles are permitted. The area is open year-round and serves as a base for exploring the 21-mile Crow Pass Trail.
