High Lake–Sportsman Junction is a designated backcountry campsite in the remote northwest corner of Yellowstone National Park, accessible via the Specimen Creek or Sportsman Lake trail systems. Positioned near the Sportsman Junction trail intersection and the alpine High Lake, the site offers a secluded overnight base in one of the park's least-visited backcountry zones. A Yellowstone Backcountry Use Permit is required for all overnight stays and must be obtained through the park's permit system. No campfires are permitted at this site. The surrounding watershed supports native cutthroat trout fishing in High Lake, subject to current Yellowstone fishing regulations. Snow can linger into summer at this elevation, and conditions should be verified with park rangers prior to any trip.

Prime backpacking season is late June through September. Backcountry access is limited during May and June due to deep snow and streams swollen from snow melt.
Campsite WD4 on the southern shore of High Lake... accessible from Sportsman Lake via Specimen Creek trail... there was nobody in that site the entire time.
