A backcountry camping area at South Beach within Caines Head State Recreation Area, the site of abandoned WWII Fort McGilvray. The beach area contains remains of utility buildings and barracks from the garrison that housed 500 soldiers from 1941-1943 (structures are unsafe to enter). A few campsites are available in the woods at the beach edge. The area offers excellent views of rock islands at the entrance to Resurrection Bay. Access via the Coastal Trail requires low tide conditions.
