Snake River backcountry campsites (8C series) are designated primitive camping sites located along the South Boundary Trail in the southern region of Yellowstone National Park. The South Boundary Trail follows the Snake River for most of its 11.6-mile route, traveling between the South Entrance in the west and the Harebell Creek Patrol Cabin in the east. The trail intersects with the Continental Divide Trail near the southern park boundary. Multiple campsites serve backpackers in this area including 8C1 (near Snake Hot Springs), 8C2 (approximately 9 miles from South Entrance), 8C4 (along the Snake River near Basin Creek confluence), 8C5 (accessible via Heart River Trail), and 8C6 (at the first major Snake River ford). Access requires fording the Snake River near the trailhead, which can be dangerous and waist-deep even during low-water periods due to swift, cold water. All sites require advance backcountry permits available through Recreation.gov or park backcountry offices.
