Sheridan Trail (site 8H2) is a designated backcountry campsite located approximately 8.7 miles from the Heart Lake Trailhead on the western shore of Heart Lake. This walk-in site serves as an excellent basecamp for day hikes to Mount Sheridan. The campsite is accessed via a spur trail shared with site 8H3, though both camps maintain privacy once off the main trail. 8H2 is one of only two Heart Lake backcountry sites that permits campfires (along with 8H3), making it a sought-after location. The site features a composting pit toilet without walls and offers lakeside camping. Camping is limited to two nights per party at this location.
Open May through Oct
From Heart Lake Trailhead, follow Heart Lake Trail for approximately 7.5 miles to Heart Lake, then continue 1.3 miles to 8H2 Campsite Spur Trail.
Fires are only allowed at sites 8H2 and 8H3. 8H2 has a composting pit toilet with no walls. 8H2 and 8H3 are the most secluded. Camping is limited to two nights per party.
8H2 and 8H3 share a new spur trail but are otherwise private. Both sites are lakeside locations with campfire privileges.
