A primitive walk-in backcountry campsite (site 8J4) along the Heart River Trail in the Heart Lake region of southern Yellowstone. This remote site is located where the Heart River meets Surprise Creek and is part of the Continental Divide Trail system. The site requires hiking for access through the Heart River canyon. Campers must bring bear-resistant food storage containers or use hanging systems. No facilities are available on-site, requiring visitors to be self-sufficient and filter water from nearby streams. Backcountry permits are required year-round.
