A primitive boat-in campsite at Flat Mountain Bay on Shoshone Lake. Shoshone Lake is the second-largest lake in Yellowstone National Park and the largest backcountry lake in the lower 48 states that cannot be reached by road. Access requires non-motorized watercraft only - motorboats are prohibited on the lake. The site includes a food storage pole or bear box and may have a pit toilet. Wood fires are not permitted in the Shoshone Lake region - campers must use portable stoves. All water sources require treatment or filtering. Advance reservations through Recreation.gov are required and cannot be made before June 15.
