A boat-in backcountry campsite on Shoshone Lake at Flat Mountain Arm on the south shore. Shoshone Lake is the second-largest lake in Yellowstone National Park and the largest backcountry lake in the lower 48 states that cannot be reached by road. Access is by non-motorized watercraft only - no motorboats are permitted on the lake. This primitive site includes a food storage pole or bear box and may have a pit toilet. Wood fires are prohibited in the Shoshone Lake region - campers must bring portable stoves. All water sources must be treated or filtered. Advance reservations through Recreation.gov are required and cannot be made before June 15.
