Black Canyon is a boat-in-only campground within Bighorn Canyon National Recreation Area, reachable only by water roughly five lake miles from the Ok-A-Beh boat ramp near Fort Smith, Montana. The campground provides 17 tent sites set along the canyon's shoreline, each equipped with a picnic table, fire ring, and bear-proof food storage box. A floating vault toilet and seasonal dock serve visitors from late May through Labor Day. No potable water is available on-site, so campers must bring their own. Camping is free and first-come, first-served — no reservations accepted. Bears are active in the area and use of the bear boxes is strongly required. The campground may close temporarily during summer due to bear activity; check for current alerts before visiting.
