Afterbay Campground occupies the south shore of Afterbay Lake inside Bighorn Canyon National Recreation Area, approximately 1 mile northeast of Yellowtail Dam near the NPS North District Headquarters in Fort Smith, Montana. Back-in campsites are each outfitted with electric and water hookups, fire rings, and picnic tables. Composting vault toilets serve the campground, and an RV dump station is located nearby at the Headquarters building. Sites are first-come, first-served with no advance reservations required. Take Montana Highway 313 through Fort Smith and look for the brown NPS sign just past the Headquarters building.
