A US Forest Service campground in the Ward Lake Recreation Area, 7 miles north of downtown Ketchikan and about 4 miles from the state ferry terminal. The facility straddles Signal Creek and lies on the banks of Ward Lake. The campground has 24 campsites (numbered 001-024), all standard nonelectric type, each accommodating up to 10 people. Sites include picnic table, campfire ring with grill, and gravel parking spur. Amenities include two hand pumps for drinking water (peak season only), three vault toilets, and access to a large day-use complex with picnic areas and shelters. A year-round facility with checkout at 2 PM and nightly rate of $10 per site. The Ward Lake area offers seven hiking trails, freshwater fishing, canoeing, kayaking, wildlife viewing, and swimming. Black bears frequent the area especially August-September; food must be stored in closed vehicles.
