A U.S. Forest Service group campground in Chugach National Forest, accessible only by train via the Alaska Railroad Glacier Discovery service. Located at the head of Placer River Valley near Spencer Glacier Lake, approximately 60 miles south of Anchorage. The facility offers two group campsites: Site A accommodates up to 15 people, Site B up to 10 people. Shared amenities include three picnic tables, bear boxes, tarp poles, campfire rings, and a vault toilet located approximately 100 yards from the sites. Trails lead 1.3 miles to Spencer Lake and another 2.1 miles around the lake to the glacier terminus. Popular activities include packrafting, kayaking, glacier viewing, wildlife watching, and hiking. Operating season aligns with the Glacier Discovery train schedule from late May through mid-September. Reservations always required. Black and brown bears, wolves, moose, mountain goats, and other wildlife inhabit the area.
