Flattop is a hike-in backcountry wilderness campsite within Glacier National Park, reached via a roughly 5.7-mile trail from the Packer's Roost trailhead. The site sits atop Flattop Mountain in terrain shaped by past fire, offering wide-open views of surrounding peaks. Shared amenities include a communal cooking area with a bear pole for food storage and a vault toilet; no drinking water is available on-site. A wilderness use permit is required for overnight stays from May 1 through October 31 and must be obtained in advance through Recreation.gov's lottery system. Camping is free and permit-free from November through April, though winter access is challenging. This corridor is prime grizzly bear habitat; proper food storage is mandatory.
