Brown Pass is a remote backcountry campsite located at approximately 6,255 feet elevation in the North Fork area of Glacier National Park. The site sits along the Pacific Northwest Trail and is reached via the Bowman Lake Trail, roughly 8 miles from the Bowman Lake trailhead through dense subalpine forest. At this high elevation, the campsite offers access to surrounding alpine terrain and serves as a staging point for day trips toward Hole in the Wall. Water at the pass itself can be unreliable, especially later in the season; a stream is typically accessible approximately 200 yards west along the trail toward Bowman Lake. All overnight stays require a wilderness permit, which can be reserved in advance through Recreation.gov or obtained as a walk-up permit from backcountry ranger stations within the park.
Wilderness permits are required for all backcountry overnight stays in Glacier National Park.
$7 per person, per night camping fee; permits available online through Recreation.gov.
The campground at Brown Pass is at 6,255' elevation. Water source is located approximately 200 yards west of the campsite along the trail.
