Howard Douglas Lake is a designated backcountry campground in Banff National Park, situated in the Sunshine Meadows approximately 20 km southwest of the Town of Banff. The campground is reached by riding the fee-based Sunshine Village gondola and hiking approximately 6 km through the meadows. It serves as a common first-night stop for hikers traveling toward Citadel Pass and Mount Assiniboine. Facilities include an outhouse, an open cooking area, a bear hang for food storage, and access to lake water for filtration. Campfires are not permitted. A Parks Canada backcountry permit and advance reservation are required.
