Sunny Bar is a primitive gravel bar campsite along the Gulkana Wild and Scenic River, accessible only by float boat or paddle craft. This sun-exposed riverside location offers space for approximately 5 tents amid the Alaska interior wilderness. The Gulkana River provides exceptional sportfishing for king salmon, red salmon, rainbow trout, arctic grayling, and whitefish. As a designated Wild and Scenic River managed by the Bureau of Land Management, visitors are encouraged to practice low-impact camping techniques. No facilities are provided - this is true wilderness camping. The float season typically runs from early June through mid-September, depending on ice breakup and water conditions.
