A primitive river campsite along the Gulkana National Wild and Scenic River, managed by the Bureau of Land Management. Long Bar provides a backcountry camping experience on a gravel bar formation along the 181-mile wild river corridor. The site can accommodate approximately 3 tents and is accessible only by watercraft. No developed facilities exist at this location - visitors must bring all supplies and pack out all waste. Practice Leave No Trace principles to help maintain the wild character of this designated Wild and Scenic River. The floating season runs from early June through mid-September.
All 181 miles of the Gulkana River are classified as wild. The BLM section of the river includes the river and land up to the high water mark so it is possible to camp on gravel bars along the way.
