A primitive boat-in campsite along the San Juan River in the lower canyon section managed by the BLM Monticello Field Office. The Tabernacle rock formation marks the beginning of the San Juan Goosenecks. A river permit is required year-round for all trips on this section; apply through Recreation.gov. Permit fees ($20/person for Mexican Hat to Clay Hills) apply March 1 through October 31. Reserved campsites below Government Rapid are assigned by BLM - submit preferences when booking.
