A primitive dispersed camping area in Salt River Canyon within Tonto National Forest near Whiteriver. This undeveloped site offers approximately 25 campsites suitable for RVs and tents along the Salt River corridor. The facility has no water, toilets, or developed amenities, providing a true backcountry camping experience in Gila County. Access is via primitive dirt roads off Highway 60 in the Salt River Canyon area. The campground is located along the road that follows the Salt River, past First Campground, on the route toward Cibecue Creek trailhead. Roads are narrow with sheer cliffs requiring extreme caution. The area serves visitors exploring the rugged canyon landscapes and serves as a staging point for river activities in the Upper Salt River wilderness area managed by the US Forest Service.
Dispersed camping is allowed in most places within the forest boundary and is more primitive than in developed campgrounds with few or no facilities.
Second Campground is located along the road that follows the Salt River near Highway 60, past First Campground on the way to Cibecue Creek trailhead. Bumpy ride down old dirt road with very narrow sections and sheer cliffs requiring extreme caution.
