Small park managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers on the west bank of the Alabama River at the Claiborne Lock and Dam northwest of Gosport. Offers free camping with basic facilities including vault toilets, central water, and picnic areas with shade. The park features an observation deck with a round pavilion providing views of water flowing over the lock and dam. Popular fishing spot especially for catfish. Claiborne Lake Dam Site West Park is a featured birding site. Access: Free; please note that much of the park is open to hunting during hunting seasons. From the intersection of Claiborne Lake Road and Clarke Road 39, go 2.5 miles south on Clarke 39 to 11 Mile Post Road. Go straight on 11 Mile Post Road for 0.4 miles; turn left (east) on West Bank Road, and go 0.8 miles to the park entrance.
Damsite West Bank is a small park that is owned and managed by the U.S. Corps of Engineers. The park contains camping facilities with electricity available for overnight guests. Shady picnicking spots, observation deck with round pavilion providing view of water overflowing lock & dam. Favorite fishing spot for locals, especially catfish.
