Protection Mountain Campground sits along the Bow Valley Parkway (Highway 1A) in Banff National Park, 15 km east of Lake Louise and about 48 km from the town of Banff. The campground's 72 unserviced sites are set in an open landscape with sweeping views of Protection and Castle Mountains — conditions that also make it one of the better stargazing spots along the parkway. Sites accommodate tents and self-contained RVs or trailers up to 10 metres (35 feet); all vehicles must fit within the campsite driveway. Amenities include washroom buildings with flush toilets and hot and cold running water, central drinking water, cooking shelters, firepits with firewood for permit holders, and food storage lockers. RV campers can access sani-dump facilities at the nearby Lake Louise Campground. All sites are reservable through Parks Canada's reservation system. Cell coverage is limited along this stretch of the Bow Valley Parkway. The campground operates seasonally from mid-June through mid-September.
