Sentinel Point is a primitive river campsite along the Gulkana National Wild River, accessible only by boat or raft. This small backcountry site offers tent camping space for approximately 2 groups on a gravel bar or riverbank clearing. Part of the 181-mile Wild and Scenic River corridor managed by BLM, it provides an opportunity for a remote wilderness camping experience during float trips. Visitors should practice Leave No Trace principles and be prepared for bear encounters, as the river is a prime salmon spawning area. The site has no developed facilities - campers must be self-sufficient and pack out all waste.
Open Jun through Sep
BLM managed sections of the Gulkana Wild and Scenic River can be accessed at Sourdough Creek Campground and Paxson Lake Campground.
The Floaters Guide is organized to help you better plan your Gulkana trip by recommending and giving descriptions of campsites along the river.
Heavy bear traffic along the river when the salmon are running requires visitors to store food properly and keep a clean camp.
